MURFREESBORO - Chowan University's Justin Bagbey has been named to the 2010 American Baseball Coaches Associatoin Atlantic All Region Team, adding to his already long list of accolades this season. The first baseman joins 15 other players from the Atlantic Region on the this year's team. Teammate Justin Shockley was also named to the Second Team after turning in a solid freshman season.
Bagbey was named this year's CIAA Baseball Player of the Year in April after turning in a solid sophomore season. He led the league in homeruns (13) this season and hit at a .437 clip.
"This is a deserving honor for Justin," said Chowan's Head Coach Aaron Carroll. "Being named All Region to a true testament to what a great hitter he his. He showed discipline at the plate and when pitchers made mistakes, he took advantage of them."
Bagbey collected 12 doubles and 47 RBI while also posting a .991 fielding percentage this season for the 24-23-1 Hawks. Bagbey was also named to the All-CIAA First Team at firstbase and NCCAA All South Region-Infielder.
Shockley was named to the 2010 ABCA Atlantic Region Second Team after hitting at a .452 clip as the Hawks' designated hitter. He collected nine doubles and 22 RBI in his first season of collegiate play.
"Justin Shockley worked hard all year long for us," said Carroll. "To come in as a freshman and put up the kind of numbers he did shows just what hard work can get for you. I look forward to having him a part of the team for the next three seasons."
