MURFREESBORO - Although the recent weather would tell a different story, two of Chowan University's spring sports are set to open their seasons this weekend on the road. The baseball and softball programs, both periennial successful programs for the athletic department, are set to open the season this weekend on the road. The baseball team will travel to Coker College for a three game series while the softball team will open up at the USC-Aiken Early Bird Classic.
The Hawks and the Coker College Cobras will play a doubleheader on Saturday, February 6th with first pitch set at 12:00pm. They will follow Saturday's doubleheader up with a 12:00pm single game on Sunday, February 7th.
The softball program will look to play some stiff competition in at the USC-Aiken Early Bird Classic. They open with play on Saturday against Charleston (WV) at 10:00am and then follow that game up with a 2:00pm start with Erskine College. On Sunday, the Hawks will face off against Francis Marion University at 10:00am and then with preseason ranked #2, North Georgia College and State University at 12:00pm.
Both teams are set to make their home season debuts on Friday, February 12th. The baseball program will host Shepherd University at 2:00pm that Friday afternoon in the first of a three-game series to be played through the weekend. The softball team will host PSAC member, Mercyhurst College at 2:00pm in a doubleheader that Friday afternoon.
