Kashara Simpson enters her second year as the Director of Athletic Communications at Chowan University, where she serves as the primary storyteller and media contact for the Hawks sports programs. In her current role, Simpson oversees the daily operations of the athletic communications office, which includes managing the official athletics website and all department social media platforms. As the lead statistician, she provides live statistical coverage for all home athletic events and handles the editorial production of the department, from in-depth preseason previews to post-game recaps.
Before being elevated to Director in August 2025, Simpson served as the Athletic Department Graduate Assistant during the 2024-25 academic year. In that role, she was vital in assisting with the department's administrative efforts, contributing to business operations, media day coordination, and game-day fan engagement initiatives. She also provided key leadership for the student-athlete population as the advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
A dedicated alumna of Chowan, Simpson completed her undergraduate degree in Exercise Science in just three years, graduating with high honors in May 2024. She continued her education on campus, earning a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership in July 2025. Her rapid ascent from standout student-athlete to department communications director reflects her deep commitment to the mission and growth of Chowan University Athletics.
During the 2023-2024 academic year, Simpson served as a member of the athletic department’s event staff, where she excelled in assisting with managing facilities, organizing team merchandise, assisting with various duties of game day operations, and supporting athletic staff as needed. Simultaneously, Kashara contributed to the university community as a student tour guide, showcasing Chowan's campus to prospective students-while also being a student athlete herself. Kashara is a Rolesville, N.C. native.
In addition to her administrative responsibilities, Kashara has a strong interest in student leadership and sports. She was President of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) the last two years.
During her tenure at Chowan, Simpson participated in Women’s Lacrosse, Women's Cross Country, and Women's Basketball. She served as a Sports Chaplain, providing guidance to her teammates and other students on campus. She often led small group Bible studies on campus as part of her campus ministries duties.
Kashara’s dedication to leadership shows through her presidential ambassador position as well. She would assist the University’s president with various student leadership initiatives. Her experience and leadership show her passion for Chowan University and the athletic department as a whole.
“Kashara brings an excellent work ethic, an eye for detail, and knowledge of the inner workings of the athletic department to the table to assist her in this new role in our department,” said Meredith Long, Deputy Athletic Director. “Kashara is a born leader with a ton of talent that I feel very fortunate to have in our department. She brings different perspectives, fresh ideas, and a willingness to learn in every scenario.”
