Tom Whiteman enters his second season at the helm of the newly started women's bowling team at Chowan University. Last season in their first season the Hawks competed with some of the best teams in the CIAA. Whiteman brings with him a strong bowling background to aid in starting the program from the grass roots level.
Whiteman is a member of Chowan's faculty and instructs in the Graphic Arts and Communications Department. He has worked for Chowan for 12 years but this will be his first stint with the athletic department.
Whiteman has an extensive bowling background and got his start in bowling at the tender age of five. Throughout his youth he bowled competively in his home state of Pennsylvania and earned a spot on the West Liberty State University bowling team after four years of competing on his high school team.
After graduation from WLSU Whiteman continued to compete in bowling leagues in West Virginia and even managed a Youth ABA league for six years. He continues to bowl competitively and holds a 216 average.
