Assistant Coaching Staff

Chelsea Haines begins her second season as the assistant coach for the Chowan University Women’s Basketball team, however, Haines’ wealth of basketball knowledge and coaching dates back to her teenage years.

Haines comes to Chowan by way of Lynchburg College where she was the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the past two years. While coaching she has also been working on a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.  Haines began her coaching career when she was 16.  During the summer she was the Head Coach for a local AAU team.  She coached this team for two years and took them to the Virginia State Tournament in 2000.  Aside from her coaching experience at Lynchburg, Haines spent one year as the Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for Belhaven College and was also the Student Assistant at Mars Hill College for one season.

Haines also brings with her plenty of experience coaching All-star teams both here and abroad.  Haines has been a head coach for teams in the USA Athletes International Tour in Germany, the East Meets West Tour in the Czech Republic, and at the 2007 Arafura Games hosted by Australia.  Haines has also worked summer basketball camps at schools such as Duke University, Clemson University, Florida State University, and Louisiana State University.  Haines is also a member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association.

Haines graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish and a minor in Business Administration from Mars Hill College in 2004.  Haines recently completed her Master's degree in Business Administration from Lynchburg College in August 2008.
