HAMPTON, VA - The CIAA announced today the 2010 Preseason All-CIAA team with Chowan players grabbing four out of the twelve preseason team spots. Last year's CIAA Rookie of the Year, Karina Monroe, headlines the All-CIAA team for Chowan while teammates Antoinette McCollough, Tori Lewis, and Callie Armistead also earned spots on the team. MURFREESBORO - All four of Chowan University's fall sports teams are now underway after the volleyball and men's and women's soccer teams checked in this morning. Football has been practicing for a week in preparation for their 2010 season opener at Lenoir-Rhyne on August 28th while the volleyball and soccer squads will get underway with practices this afternoon. The volleyball team boasts a 14 player roster to begin the season with six returning players, including last year's CIAA Rookie of the Year, Karina Monroe. The event is set for Thursday, August 19th at 6:00pm on the upper athletic practice fields on the campus of Chowan University. ESPN's Talkin' Sports' Gattis Hodges will be on hand for a live remote show. He will interview coaches and players and preview the upcoming sports seasons at Chowan. The PSAC Champs overpowered the Hawks 25-15, 25-15, and 25-6. The Hawks earned their way to the tournament with a CIAA Championship win nearly two weeks ago, marking the school's first-ever NCAA postseason bid as a DII institution.
