After losing 5-0 yesterday to Guilford College, the Hawks dropped a 7-0 decision to Averett University this afternoon. The Hawks put up 311 yards of offense behind the arm of rookie quarterback Cameron Stover who passed for 245 in his first collegiate start. The Ctiadel combined for 374 yards of offense with 243 yards coming on the ground. This was the season opener for the Bulldogs who will travel to play Arizona next weekend. The Hawks suffered two losses on the first day to West Liberty State and Point Par,k, both in straight sets. The Bears had two running backs record 100-plus yards in the game while the team rushed for a combined 513 yards. The Hawks were held to 164 yards of total offense in the game, with 95 yards coming in the air and 69 yards on the ground. Last year's CIAA Rookie of the Year, Karina Monroe, headlines the All-CIAA team for Chowan while teammates Antoinette McCollough, Tori Lewis, and Callie Armistead also earned spots on the team. Football has been practicing for a week in preparation for their 2010 season opener at Lenoir-Rhyne on August 28th while the volleyball and soccer squads will get underway with practices this afternoon. The volleyball team boasts a 14 player roster to begin the season with six returning players, including last year's CIAA Rookie of the Year, Karina Monroe.
