Hawks Top off Weekend with Win over Lincoln (PA)

Brandon Mack had four hits and three RBI on Sunday.
LINCOLN, PA- The Chowan University baseball team closed out the three game series against Lincoln University (PA) on Sunday afternoon with a 17-4 victory over the Lions.  Chowan outhit the Lincoln (PA) 21-7 on the afternoon as five Hawks had multiple hits over the course of the nine inning affair. Brandon Mack and William Ward each collected four hits in the win.  Mack knocked in three RBI in the contest. 
 
The Hawks took advantage of a fielding error in the top of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead, and added two runs in the top of the third frame after Ryan Moore doubled down the left field line to score Josh Catalano, and Drew Mason hit an RBI single. 
 
Chowan gave themselves some cushion in the top of the fourth inning.  Ward's infield single made the score 4-0, and Catalano's two run homerun to right field gave the Hawks a 6-0 advantage.  The Lions responded in the home half of the fourth by scoring two runs of their own thanks to an RBI double and a sacrifice fly. 
 
The Hawks' offense exploded in their next at-bat, using five hits and two Lion errors to plate four runs.  They added two additional runs in the top of the seventh when Mack laced an RBI single to center and Colby Wiggins drew a bases loaded walk to give Chowan a 12-2 lead.  Will Gurganus' RBI base knock in the eighth extended the Hawks lead to 13-2. 
 
Lincoln (PA) took advantage of an RBI single and a Hawk error to plate two runs in the home half of the eighth.  Chowan used a four run ninth inning to secure the 17-4 win over the Lions.  George Mazza earned the win for the Hawks after throwing five innings and holding Lincoln (PA) to four hits and two earned runs.  Bobby Mason and Austin McGhee pitched in-relief, throwing two innings apiece.  Phillip Tomsic threw five innings on the mound for the Lions and earned the loss on the mound.  Dan Spikes finished the contest in-relief.  They each gave up five earned runs in the contest. 
 
With the victory, the Hawks improve to 19-25 overall and 11-7 in CIAA play while the Lions fall to 4-24 overall and 2-16 in the league.  Chowan heads to Petersburg, VA this week to compete for a CIAA Championship.  Brackets and game times will be released as they become available.
