AIKEN, SC- The Chowan University baseball took a 19-3 loss to the #8 USC-Aiken Pacers on Tuesday afternoon. The Hawks mustered seven hits in comparison to 23 from the Pacers.
USC-Aiken plated five runs in the bottom of the first and added a four run cushion in the second to build a commanding 9-0 advantage.
Brandon Mack sparked some offense for the Hawks in the top of the third with a double to right center. A base hit up the middle from Anthony Walder allowed Mack to score.
Ryan Moore followed by belting a two-run homerun to make the score 9-3. USC-Aiken used a six-run fourth inning to pull ahead 15-3 before adding three additional runs in the bottom of the fifth. One more run in the eighth secured the 19-3 victory for the Pacers.
Evan Holton was 2-3 at the plate in the loss.
Ryan Moore was 1-3 on the afternoon with two RBI, along with
Josh Catalano,
Anthony Waldner,
William Ward and
Brandon Mack who each picked up a hit in the loss.
Tyler Burden took the loss for Chowan on the mound.
For the Pacers, JJ Loker had four hits in the win and Bryce Bauer, Ty Barkell each had three hits in the victory. Zach Hayden earned the win for USC-Aiken, while
Tyler Burden took the loss for the Hawks.
Chowan will have another shot at the Pacers in a nine inning game on Wednesday evening. First-pitch is slated for 6:00pm.
