Hawks Roll to Seventh Straight Win with Sweep of Johnson C. Smith

Amber Matthews was 4-7 on Saturday against Johnson C. Smith.
CHARLOTTE, NC- The Chowan University softball rolled to their seventh straight win on Saturday after defeating the Johnson C. Smith Lady Golden Bulls 15-6 and 10-2. 
 
Eight Hawks combined for 15 hits in Saturday's first contest, using a seven –run third inning to put the Lady Golden Bulls in an early defecit.  Lacey Wildeboer was 4-4 at the plate with Leigh Ward, Tori Cragan, and Liz Hipple collecting three hits in the victory.  Cragan knocked in four RBI for Chowan.  Courtney Baker, Amber Matthews, and Shelby Pendleton collected two hits apiece. 
 
Alora Lincoln earned the win on the mound for the Hawks, throwing five complete innings and scattering 10 hits. 
 
Pendleton and Ward bats' stayed hot in the nightcap as they paced Chowan with three hits.  Hipple, Mattews, and Hannah Joyce notched two hits apiece to contribute to a team total of 10 hits in the win.  The Hawks scored early and often in the nightcap, using a six-run second inning to push them to a 10-2 victory. 
 
Courtney Groce held the Lady Golden Bulls to five hits over five innings of play, and struck out nine in the win. 
 
Melissa Vierra took both losses on the mound for Johnson C. Smith. 
 
The Hawks continue CIAA play on Sunday as they travel to Salisbury, NC for a single contest against the Lady Blue Bears of Livingstone College. Chowan is 10-13 overall and undefeated in league play with a 6-0 mark.
