Box Score 1Box Score 2 The Chowan University softball team picked up their fifth straight win on Thursday afternoon after sweeping the visiting Lady Vikings of Elizabeth City State University. The Hawks grabbed a 21-0 victory in the first game before picking up a 19-4 win in the nightcap.
Alora Lincoln went the distance in the first game, throwing five shut-out innings while surrendering just two hits, and collecting 10 strike outs. The Hawks pounded out 11 hits in the victory, with
Hannah Joyce,
Liz Hipple, and
Courtney Baker notching two hits apiece. Baker collected five RBI at the plate in the first contest.
Chowan continued to dominate at the plate in the second contest, using a 12-run second inning en-route to the 21-4 CIAA Northern Division win. Baker went 3-4 at the plate in the nightcap with three RBI, with Hipple,
Kelly Hardison, and Amber Mattews all garnering multiple hits in the contest.
Hipple paced the Hawks with four RBI, with Matthews, Hardison
Tori Cragan, and
Lacey Wildeboer all collecting multiple RBI's in the win.
Courtney Groce held the Lady Vikings to five hits while striking out seven over the course of five innings.
Heather Smith took both losses on the mound for Elizabeth City State University. The Lady Vikings fall to 0-10 overall and 0-8 in league play after Thursday's loss, while the Hawks improve to 8-13 overall and 5-0 in CIAA play.
Chowan travels to Charlotte, NC on Saturday to take on the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls in a cross divisional match-up before traveling to Salisbury, NC to take on the Livingstone Lady Blue Bears on Sunday.
