Hawks Sweep Dragons in Afternoon Slugfest

Justin Shockley was 2-2 with four RBI in Thursday's 32-1 win.
MURFREESBORO, NC- Box Score 1 Box Score 2 The Chowan University baseball team improved to 9-15 on Thursday afternoon after defeating the visiting Dragons of Virginia University of Lynchburg 19-2 and 32-1 in a nonconference doubleheader match-up. 
 
Chowan pounded out a staggering 44 hits over the course of the afternoon, and outscored the Dragons a combined 51-3.  Josh Barmoy tossed three complete innings in the first contest, giving up two earned runs, while striking out five.  Brian Vincent came in in-relief for the final four innings, shutting out the Dragons en-route to the save. 
 
Evan Seymour, Michael Strobel and William Ward each collected three hits in the first victory with eight Hawks combining for 17 RBI.  Six Hawks knocked in multiple RBI's. 
 
The Hawks continued to put on an offense show through the second contest.  Evan Holton and Colby Wiggins tallied three hits apiece, with Holton and Justin Shockley pacing the Hawks with four RBI each.  The nightcap featured hits from 14 different players in the line-up. 
 
Austin McGhee earned the win on the mound after shutting out the Dragons for four complete innings.  He struck out seven in the win, while surrendering two hits.  Will Gurganus entered the game in-relief for the final two innings. 
 
The Hawks will remain home this weekend to host the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Crimson Hawks in a four game series.  Doubleheaders will take place on Friday and Saturday at Hawkins Field with first pitch slated for 12:00pm each afternoon.
