MURFREESBORO, NC- The Chowan University softball team dropped a pair of games at Hawks Field on Sunday afternoon to the Bulldogs of Wingate University. The Hawks mustered just one hit in a 9-0 loss to the Bulldogs in the first game, and dropped the second game 6-1.
Kayla Brady broke up Stacey Houser's no-hitter in the fifth inning of the first game, but the Hawks were unable to produce offensively.
Lacey Wildeboer took the loss on the mound for Chowan in the first game.
In the second game, five Hawks combined for six hits in the 6-1 loss.
Lacey Wildeboer started off the fifth inning with a single, and stole second.
Amber Matthews reached safely on a bunt and advanced Wildeboer over to third, allowing
Shelby Pendleton to knock in the RBI after a single through the left side.
The Hawks were unable to capitalize further on the bases loaded situation in the fifth, and Wingate completed the two game sweep.
Courtney Groce took the loss on the mound in game two for the Hawks.
The Bulldogs start the season off 2-0, while the Hawks even their record to 2-2. Chowan heads to Wilson, NC on February 9
th to take on Barton College. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 12:00pm.
