BOX SCORE The Chowan University women's basketball team fell to 4-20 on the season after a 50-36 loss to the Lincoln (PA) Lady Lions on Wednesday evening in CIAA action.
Janelle Murphy led the Hawks with nine points in the loss.
Summer Curtis and
Talaya Lynch each added eight points in the loss.
Courtney Lucas led all scorers in the contest with 13 points for the Lady Lions. Mfon Ekanem and Tahlar McIntosh collected eight points apiece in the victory.
Summer Curtis' lay-up at the 13:02 mark in the first half gave the Hawks a narrow 6-5 lead. Lucas answered back for the Lady Lions with a lay-up allowing Lincoln (PA) to grab the momentum. Lincoln (PA) maintained the lead for the remainder of the half to take a 19-13 lead at the intermission.
The Hawks traded baskets with the Lady Lions throughout the second half, but Lincoln (PA) managed to hold on to the lead. A three pointer from Smith for the Lady Lions gave Lincoln (PA) an 11 point advantage (40-29) with 5:18 left in the game. Chowan was unable to rally and trailed by double digit points for the remainder of the contest. Despite shooting 27.6% in the contest, the Lady Lions grabbed the 50-36 Northern Division win. The Hawks shot 25.6% from the floor in the loss.
After Wednesday's 50-36 loss the Hawks slide to 4-20 overall, 4-11 in the league and 2-7 in the division. The Lady Lions improve to 9-16 overall, 5-10 in CIAA play and 3-6 in the North.
The Hawks return to the Helms Center on Saturday to host Virginia Union University. Tip-off is slated for 2:00pm. Chowan will celebrate Senior Day for
