TUCSON, AZ- The Chowan University softball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday evening to #24 Dixie State University and #23 Molloy College. The Hawks fell 7 -3 in the game against Dixie State and dropped a 7-5 decision in the nightcap against Molloy.
Hannah Joyce provided the offensive spark in the first game, collecting 2 RBI in the loss and going 2-4 at the plate.
Amber Matthews was a perfect 3-3 in the first contest.
Alora Lincoln took the loss for the Hawks on the mound.
Chowan got on the board first against Dixie State.
Kelly Hardison led off the inning with a walk and
Lauren Astengo entered the game to pinch run for Hardison, and scored on a fielding error in the outfield after a base hit from
Courtney Baker. Dixie State answered back in the home half of the second with four runs after a 3 run double from Courtney Hine followed by an RBI single to right from Sierra Phillips to take the 4-1 lead.
The Red Storm added three runs in their next two at bats to gain a 7-1 advantage over the Hawks. Chowan rallied in the top of the seventh to score two runs when
Hannah Joyce's single down the left field line scored Matthews and
Katie Moore. The Hawks were unable to overcome the deficit, and took the 7-3 loss.
The Hawks fell 7-5 to #23 Molloy College in the nightcap.
Courtney Groce took the loss on the mound.
Tori Cragan,
Leigh Ward, and
Lacey Wildeboer each went 2-4 in the loss with Wildeboer collecting an RBI. Complete statistics were not available at the time of this release.
The Hawks take on the University of New Haven in a doubleheader match-up on Sunday at 8:00 am (MST).
