KING, NC- The Chowan University baseball team picked up a 10-1 win over West Liberty on Saturday afternoon at the CIAA/WVIA Tournament.
Ryan Moore earned the win on the mound, hurling eight innings and collecting eight strike outs.
Drew Mason's solo homerun in the second inning put the Hawks ahead 1-0.
Tyler Burden followed up with a single and stole second and third, allowing
Michael Strobel to hit him in for a 2-0 advantage.
The Hilltoppers cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fifth after a leadoff homerun from Jonathon Entenmann. The Hawks answered back in the top of the sixth. Burden's one out double scored D. Mason to extend Chowan's lead to 3-1.
Justin Shockley's three-run homerun with two runners on pushed the Hawks' lead to 6-1 in the sixth.
Shockley led off the top of the ninth with a solo homerun.
Colby Wiggins added an RBI double, followed by a two-run homerun from Mason.
Mason and Burden both finished the contest 3-5. Mason hit two homeruns in the win, and collected 3 RBI. Shockley was 2-2 at the plate on Saturday afternoon, knocking in four RBI . Both of his hits were homeruns.
The Hawks improve to 3-10 on the season. They return to the diamond on Sunday to take on Fairmont State University. First pitch is slated for 11:00am.
