CHESAPEAKE, VA- The CU women's cross country team opened their season today with a fifth place finish at the Christopher Newport University Cross Country Opener.

Jomecka Deloatch led the way for the Hawks, with a fourteenth place overall finish, and time of 22:41. Crystal Louramore wasn't far behind, with a nineteenth place overall finish and time of 23:41.  Gerlisa Shipman finished twenty third overall with a time of 24:26. 

Angelica Satchell and Shaneka Sawyer finished the course in 33:33 and 34:35, respectively. 

The overall individual winner of the meet was Sophia Stone from Mary Baldwin College.  However, as a team, Christopher Newport University won the meet with a team score of 22.  There were six teams that competed in the meet, and the order of finish is listed below:

3. Mary Baldwin College
4. Ohio Valley University
5. Chowan University
6. PSU-Worthington-Scranton

The Hawks are off until next Friday when they head to Salisbury, NC to compete in the Catawba College Invitational.
