BOX SCORE The Chowan University women's basketball team dropped a 55-41 decision to North Georgia College and State University in the Loch Shop Classic on Sunday afternoon.
The team's second loss in as many days has put the Hawks on a six game skid to start the 2012-13 season.
Janelle Murphy led the squad with 13 points in the loss.
Danielle Coleman followed with six points.
Kaela Nelson and
Karina Monroe hauled in eight and seven rebounds respectively.
For the Saints, Jayme Carned led all scorers in the contest with 22 points. Turnovers proved to be costly again for the Hawks as they allowed 17 points off turnovers as well as 17 second chance points. Chowan trailed North Georgia the entire game.
The Saints opened up the contest by draining three shots from beyond the three point line. Trailing 13-4 midway through the first half,
T'Arra Cutting's lay-up brought the Hawks within seven points of the Patriots. North Georgia pulled away 17-7 five minutes later, but
Janelle Murphy's three pointer brought the Hawks back within striking distance.
North Georgia closed out the half with a 28-17 lead over the Hawks.
Danielle Coleman opened up the second half with a layup and a jumper to make the score 28-21. With the score 34-23 just three minutes into the half, a 6-2 run by North Georgia left the Hawks trailing 40-25 with 14:04 left in the game.
The Hawks and Patriots traded baskets for the remainder of the half, and Chowan was unable to recover from the deficit. North Georgia picked up the 55-41 victory and improves to 2-4 on the young season.
Chowan falls to 0-6 on the season and will return home on December 12
th to take on UNC-Pembroke. Tip-off is slated for 5:00 pm.
