Chowan Rolls to 3-0 Win over Virginia Union Lady Panthers

MURFREESBORO, NC- The Chowan University volleyball team defeated the Virginia University Lady Panther 3-0 on Monday night. 
 
Seniors Callie Armistead and Karina Monroe were honored prior to the match.  Armistead collected 30 assists in the match, and Monroe tallied 10 kills.  

Freshman standout Cindy Ehrich had 17 digs in the win.
 
The Hawks scored in bunches in the first set to take a quick 25-12 victory.  After trailing 0-1, a kill by Nikira Fults led to nine straight points for the Hawks.  The Lady Panthers rallied back to make the score 10-7.  The set remained close until Monica Ruffin's kill earned the serve back for CU with the score 15-11.  The Hawks won the next nine consecutive points to pull ahead 24-11 before taking the first set 25-12. 
 
The Lady Panthers had a slim 3-2 lead early in the second set.  Karina Monroe's kill tied the set 3-3 and earned the serve back.  Allison Smith took over from there, serving the next 16 serves in route to give Chowan an 18-3 lead.   Chowan easily finished out the second set 25-11.
 
The Hawks took advantage of attack, service, and set errors from the Lady Panthers to capture the third set 25-12. 
 
After Monday's loss, the Lady Panthers fall to 5-25 on the 2012 season, 5-11 in league play, and 4-6 in the CIAA Northern Division. 
 
The Hawks move to 17-7 on the season, 14-1 in CIAA play, and 9-0 in the CIAA Northern Division.  They return to the Helms Center on Tuesday at 6:00 pm for their final home game of the season against the Virginia State University Lady Trojans.
