WILBERFORCE, OH- The Chowan University women's basketball team dropped a 61-47 road contest to Central State University on Thursday afternoon. The Hawks trailed 39-20 at halftime, and were unable to bounce back in the second half.
Janelle Murphy had another stellar game for the blue and white as she drained 20 points in the loss, a season high for the 2012-13 season. Murphy also made three of the team's four three-point attempts.
Kaela Nelson grabbed a team high eleven rebounds in the loss.
Central State's Aryelle Covington led the way for the Marauders with 16 points in the win. Tanja Beasley chipped in with 11 of her own. Turnovers proved to be costly for the Hawks as Central State scored 21 points off of CU turnovers.
The Hawks hung with Central State in the first half until a 20-6 run from the Marauders' with 10:18 in the first half of the game gave Central State a 39-20 lead heading into halftime.
The Hawks were unable to recover in the second half, trailing by as many as 20 points in the half.
Chowan falls to 0-2 on the sort season, as the Marauders remain undefeated with a 4-0 record.
The Hawks return home on Tuesday November 20
th to host Central State. Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm in the Helms Center.
