CARY,NC- The Chowan University women's cross country team finished in 5
th place at the CIAA Cross Country Championship on Thursday afternoon with a team score of 157. The 5
th place finish was a three place improvement from their 8
th place finish in 2011.
Crystal Louramore finished first for Chowan with a time of 21:08 and 14
th place overall finish.
Jomecka Deloatch crossed the finish line next for CU in 21
st place with a time of 21:36.
Gerlisa Shipman followed closely behind, finishing the 5k course in 22:09 and in 25
th place overall.
Senior
Stephany Powell capped off her career for the Hawks with a 35
th place overall finish and time of 22:56. Rounding out the scoring for Chowan was
Angelica Satchell as she crossed the finish line at the 28:47 mark in 62
nd place.
Shaneka Sawyer also competed in the meet for Chowan. She finished right behind Satchell in 63
rd place with a final time of 29:35.

Allie Kolezynski stated, “I'm very proud of this team. The success they have experienced in the last two weeks of the season is credited to their work ethic and drive to succeed.”
Taylor Ashley-Beam of Virginia State was the individual champion for the third consecutive year with a winning time of 19:27.
Saint Augustine's University finished in first with a team score of 44. Defending champion Winston-Salem State finished second with 48 points, followed by Virginia State rounding out the top three with a team score of 68.
