MURFREESBORO - They may have competed in their first-ever collegiate varsity sport this past Spring, but freshmen Justin Bagbey and Allie Kolezynski put up veteran numbers for the Hawks baseball and softball teams respectively this season. Bagbey and Kolezynski earned one of eleven spots on the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association's All-State Team for their sports.
Bagbey, a native of Virgilina, Virginia and graduate of Halifax County High School, posted big numbers for the Hawks, helping them to a 23-18 season record. Bagbey broke several standing program records this season, including season homeruns (17) and season RBI's (64). He led the entire nation (NCAA DII schools) in slugging percentage at a .985 clip. He also led the team offensively, hitting .478 with 17 homeruns, 17 doubles, 64 RBI, and striking out just 11 times. He started 40 games this season at firstbase and made just six errors in 239 chances.
Kolezynski, a native of Strongsville, Ohio and graduate of Strongsville High School, helped the Hawks to a program-high 30 wins this season, a NCCAA South Region Championship, and appearance at the NCCAA Nationals in Palm Beach, Florida. Kolezynski was named to the NCCSIA All-State Team as a designated player, playing 50% of her time on the mound and the other 50% as a hitter in the Hawks' lineup. She was named NCCAA All South Region, an NCCAA All American, and also was named to the NCCAA All Tournament Team. She posted a .360 batting average and stole 24 of 26 bases this season while also compiling a 13-13 overall pitching record and a 3.20 ERA.
NCCSIA selects all-state teams in the university (NCAA Division I) and college (Division II, III, NAIA, NCCAA) divisions for women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, softball and baseball. Nearly 600 student-athletes have been recognized on all-state teams since 2003.
