Place Puts Finishing Touches on 2009 Football Schedule

MURFREESBORO - Head Football Coach Tim Place released today the 2009 playing schedule. This year's schedule features one DI-AA opponents, one SIAC opponent, two CIAA cross-divisonal foes, and five CIAA Western Division rivals. The Hawks will also keep their rivalry with Brevard College open with a road trip in September. At left, Place instructs his defensive unit during this year's spring game.

Place just negoiated a home game with Albany State University, a member of the SIAC out of Albany, Georgia. That game will give Chowan a home-season opener on August 27th at 6:00pm. They will follow the game with ASU with a September 5th game at Old Dominion University,who revamped their program after more than 60 years without a team. That kick off is slated for 6:00pm in Norfolk, Virginia.

The Hawks will continue with their old rivalry with Brevard College that dates back to the junior college days for both schools. The Hawks will travel to play Brevard on September 12th in a 2:00pm gridiron duel.

In a cross-divisional rivalry, the Hawks will meet the Vikings from Elizabeth City State University on a nuetral site for the Down East Classic in Rocky Mount. That September 19th game is slated for 4:00pm. Chowan will host their first game of the season and their first CIAA Western Division opponent in Fayetteville State University on October 3rd. Kick off is set for 6:00pm at Garrison Stadium. After one home game, the Hawks will hit the road yet again for Salisbury, North Carolina to play Livingstone College, the Hawks' long CIAA win last year. That CIAA Western Division game is set for a 1:30pm kick off.

Chowan will round out their schedule with three home games, all CIAA Western Division opponents. Defending CIAA Champs Shaw University will come to Garrison Stadium on October 17th for a 6:00pm kick off while Johnson C. Smith University comes in the following Saturday for Homecoming weekend and another 6:00pm start. Saint Augustines College rounds out the competition on the regular season schedule on October 31st for the annual Hall of Fame Game. That game will kick off at 12:00pm.

The CIAA Championship game will be played November 7th in Durham.
