WHITE LAKE, NC - Freshman golfer Cliff Forbes (at left) shot a season best 73 but the Hawks are 63 strokes off the lead at the Carolina Sands Intercollegiate Golf Tournament after day one. Barton College leads the 18-team field with a 279 with Chowan finishing up round one with 342 team strokes.
Chowan was led by Forbes who turned in a 73, one over par at the nearly 7,000 yard course. Josh Bryant came in behind him with an 85 while Michael Edwards shot an 89. John Riddick and Gregg Brooks shot a 95 and a 99 respectively.
The Hawks will wrap up play at the tournament today with the second round.
