RICHMOND,VA- The men's tennis team improved to 3-8 on the year after soaring past the Panthers by the final match score of 9-0.
After finishing doubles play, the Hawks took a 3-0 lead going into singles play. Senior Darick Gilman represented the #1 seed followed by Raitis Abolins and Jonathan Walker as the #2 and #3 seeds, respectively. Gilman defeated Gil Hernandez by the final score, 6-0, 6-3. Abolins won, 6-2, 6-1, over Justin Smith. Walker defeated Emmanuel Sekyere in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Mike Fencil, Adam Moneypenny, and Ira Coats rounded out the #4, #5, and #6 seeds, respectively. Fencil picked up a win over Wayne Motley, Jr. Moneypenny won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, over Ramon Gray. Coats defeated Charles Harris, 6-1, 6-1.
The Hawks will return home on April 9th to host Shaw University. Match set for 2:00pm.
