Women's Tennis Falls at Home to Lady Broncos

MURFREESBORO- The women's tennis team falls to 2-7 after losing a home match to Fayetteville State by the final match score of 6-3. Newcomer Tara Lunney (at left) contributed two out of the three points in the Chowan loss.

Chowan trailed 2-1 after doubles play. Amanda Spaulding and Tara Lunney won the Hawk's lone point in doubles play.

In singles play, Kashae Beverly anchored the #1 seed but lost to Kristen Tapassi by the final score, 6-3, 6-2. Spaulding represented the #2 seed for the Hawks, but dropped her match to Samantha Meeks, 6-3, 6-2. Lunney defeated Fayetteville State's #3 seed, Chekimbrell Jefferson, by the final score, 6-2, 6-3. Melinda Williams played as the #4 seed followed by Jennifer Mitchell and Brittney Johnson rounding out the #5 and #6 seeds, respectively. Williams battled but came up short in the third set losing to Amber Mitchell, 2-6, 6-2, 7-5. Mitchell defeated Lindsay Dean in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Johnson fought but fell to Fatimah Patterson in three sets by the final score, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

The Hawks will begin their three-match road trip tomorrow as they will travel to Richmond, VA to play Virginia Union University. Match set for 1:00pm. The next day, Chowan will play the University of District of Columbia in the nation's capital. Match is 1:00pm. The Hawks will finish their road trip against Virginia State University on April 8th. Match begins 4:00pm.
