HAMPTON, VA- The baseball team split the season-series with the Shipbuilders by winning on the road with the final score of 10-6. The win improves the Hawks to 23-14 overall and drops the Shipbuilders to 24-13. Jordan Whitlatch (at left) led the Hawk's attack by going 2-4 at the plate while driving in three runs in the win.

Chowan scored six unanswered runs after trailing 1-0 at the end of the first inning. Bases loaded and one out, Whitlatch drilled a line shot down the right-field line to bring home three runs and gave Whitlatch his first triple of the season. The following batter, Matt Crane, singled into right field to score Whitlatch. After two innings, the Hawks took a commanding 4-1 lead. Chowan would score two more runs in the fourth and fifth inning to go up, 6-1. In the top of the ninth, Freshman Justin Bagbey picked up his 17th home run of the season to put the game out of reach. The Shipbuilders would rally in the ninth to score three runs but unable to rally from the seven-run deficit.

Freshman Ryan Bradshaw picked up his fifth win on the season. Bradshaw pitched 8.1 innings while allowing four runs on 10 hits. Bagbey went 1-4 at the plate including two RBIs and the home run in the ninth. Adam Capps and Robert Weaver each scored twice along with Whitlatch.

The Hawks will travel to Laurinburg, NC to play St. Andrew's College on Saturday in a doubleheader. Game one begins 1:00pm. The next day, Chowan will play their final home game as they will host the National Champions, Mount Olive College, in a single-nine inning game. Game is 1:00pm. Before the game, Chowan Athletics will honor Clinton "Merrell" Gay for his contributions to the baseball program.
