Volleyball Claims NCCAA Regional, National Honors

Karina Monroe was named NCCAA South Region Player of the Year

GREENVILLE, SC - After turning in a solid season that included a CIAA Conference Championship and the school's first-ever DII NCAA post season tournament bid, the volleyball team's accolades continue to roll in. The NCCAA announced that Peter Green was named the NCCAA South Region Coach of the Year while Karina Monroe was named the NCCAA South Region Player of the Year.

Karina Monroe was named to both the NCCAA All American and NCCAA All South Region First Teams after helping to guide her team to a 29-9 overall record. Joining Monroe on the NCCAA All South Region First Team were Victoria Lewis and Antoinette McCollough. Lewis also was named a Second Team NCCAA All American. Callie Armistead earned NCCAA All South Region Second Team honors.

The Hawks finished up 29-9 overall and 17-1 in CIAA play. They claimed their first-ever CIAA Conference Championship with a thrilling five-set victory over CIAA West rival, Fayetteville State University. That win garnered them an automatic bid to the NCAA Atlantic Region Tournament. The Hawks were knocked off by #1 Cal-P in straight sets to end their 2009 season.
