Baseball Program Collects Bears for Highway Patrol

MURFREESBORO - For the fourth consecutive year the baseball program collected teddy bears for the North Carolina "Highway Patrol Bear Program". This year's results yielded 21 bears, all donated by members of the Chowan University baseball program. The program, along with help from Faith Fagan (Cooperative Education @ Pitt CC) have been donating the bears to the NC Highway patrol where they will be used to comfort children involved in traffic accidents.

"Anytime we can get out and help the community in need is a great thing. The young men in the program have been very committed to community service projects,  they enjoy them, and get a lot of out it. We hope to continue the relationship with this program in the future with the help of Ms. Fagan," said Aaron Carrol, Chowan's Head Baseball Coach.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol began it's teddy bear program more than 19 years ago so that children who have been involved in accidents could be given a toy to soothe their fears during such a frightening event. They rely on the generosity of civic groups and organizations to help collect the bears for the program each year.
