HAMPTON, VA - The CIAA released the 2009 All-CIAA Rookie Team for football this afternoon with four Chowan Hawks earning spots on the team. The votes are compiled by the CIAA-SIDA. Freshman
Robert Holland,
Tony Goodman,
Ethan Reedy, and
Nick Watts were all named to the All-CIAA Rookie Team after turning in solid seasons.
Robert Holland led the CIAA in receiving all season and is second in the country in the DII ranks. He totaled 1,078 yards this season on 86 receptions, both numbers are new records for yardage and receptions in a season. Joining Holland on the offensive side of the ball is offensive lineman
Nick Watts. Watts started all season on the line and in ten games helped the offense average 386 yards of total offense per outing. Holland was named CIAA Wide Receiver of the Week three times and Rookie of the Week once.
Tony Goodman earned a spot on the CIAA All-Rookie Team as a Defensive Back and Special Teams player. Goodman tallied 25.5 tackles this season on the Hawks' defense while also returning eight punts for 101 yards. He returned 13 kickoffs for 396 yards, including an 84 yard touchdown return against Livingstone. Goodman was named CIAA Rookie of the Week once this season.
Ethan Reedy helped to anchor the Hawks defensive line this season. He appeared in all ten games, getting 14.5 tackles with 4.5 tackles for loss and a fumble recovery.
