MURFREESBORO - Five of Chowan's softball players have been tabbed All-American Scholar Athletes by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. The NFCA honors softball players from all collegiate divisions for success in the classroom on a yearly basis. To be a member of the NFCA Scholar Athlete Team all student-athletes must maintain a minimum 3.5 grade point average.

Named to this year's team were Tricia Gorman ,  Shellie Wimpey ,  Jenna Lassiter ,  Allie Kolezynski , and Kaytee McLaughlin . All five players maintained a 3.5 GPA or higher during the 2008-09 academic year. 

Wimpey and Lassiter finished up last season while Kolezynski, Gorman, and McLaughlin all return this year as the Hawks head into their first season playing in the CIAA.
