MURFREESBORO - All four of Chowan University's fall sports teams are now underway after the volleyball and men's and women's soccer teams checked in this morning. Football has been practicing for a week in preparation for their 2010 season opener at Lenoir-Rhyne on August 28th while the volleyball and soccer squads will get underway with practices this afternoon. The volleyball team boasts a 14 player roster to begin the season with six returning players, including last year's CIAA Rookie of the Year, Karina Monroe. Women's Soccer Head Coach, Jodi Clugston, brought in the largest recruiting class in her three year tenure while Matt Phelps and the men's soccer team boasts a 20-man roster, heavy on the returning player side.

MURFREESBORO - The Chowan University Department of Athletics announced plans today for the 3rd Annual Fall Sports Community Night. The event is set for Thursday, August 19th at 6:00pm on the upper athletic practice fields on the campus of Chowan University.  ESPN's Talkin' Sports' Gattis Hodges will be on hand for a live remote show. He will interview coaches and players and preview the upcoming sports seasons at Chowan. All four of CU's fall sports teams will offer free mini-clinics and games to all participants. The event is free to all members of the community and includes music, food, face painting, and an opportunity to meet and greet CU coaches,staff, and student-athletes.
